Hi there. 😊 I’m back with another video and a post. This one is all about how to cure chapped lips. I’ll share with you 10 amazing hacks that will help you keep your lips healthy, moisturized and most importantly not chapped. 👄 So let’s get to it.
Hack # 1 Drink plenty of water
One of the causes of chapped lips is not hydrating enough. 🥀 8 glasses a day is a recommended healthy amount of water. 💦 That being said it’s not good to force yourself to drink water when you really don’t want to. So I’d say the best thing to do is to listen to what your body is telling you. 🤔 Having chapped lips might be a sign of not drinking enough water. So you can try to increase your water intake by few glasses and see how you feel and if anything improves.
Hack # 2 Use Vaseline
Here’s how to cure chapped lips with Vaseline. Vaseline is great for chapped lips. It helps soften the dry flaky skin leaving your lips smooth. 🌼 One thing to remember about Vaseline is that it absorbs pretty fast. So I wouldn’t recommend going out with it on because it simply won’t last you. It will absorb in 15 minutes or so and then your lips will be left bare. It’s a great product to use while you’re at home though.
If you are going out and want to protect your lips from cracking there are other things you can use such as…
Hack # 3 Lip Balm
Lip balms are a great way to protect your lips from getting chapped while you’re outside. Unlike Vaseline, lip balm will last you longer but depending on which one you’re using you might need to reapply it few times a day.
What is the best lip balm for chapped lips
My personal favorites are the Eos lip balms. These lip balms do a really good job protecting the lips from getting dry. They come in this adorable little packaging and a variety of flavors. 💕
Speaking of packaging, my other favorite lip balms are Tony Moly lip balms. They come in containers that are actually shaped like little fruits and berries. 🍒 It’s just too cute. I love how soft they make the lips feel. Although I noticed they don’t seem to last very long on the lips. Which is why it’s a good idea to keep one on you in case you need to reapply it later.
While we’re still on the lip balm topic I’d like to mention that it’s not always the wind and cold weather that makes your lips chapped. 💨 Sometimes it can be the sun. ☀️ In which case you’ll need a lip balm with spf in it.
Tony Moly lip balms don’t have spf in them as well as most Eos lip balms. However lately Eos released several lip balms that do have spf in them.
Currently the eos lip balms with spf are: pink grapefruit(spf30), lemon twist(spf15) and aloe(spf30).
Depending on when you’re reading this article there might be more out now. Some other good lip balms with spf are supergoop acai fusion(spf30) and Burt’s bees all weather moisturizing lip balm(spf15).
Hack # 4 Lip Mask
How to cure chapped lips with a lip mask: Lip masks aka Lip packs can be great for relieving chapped lips. They are moisturizing and often times are infused with collagen. 💧 This helps make your lips soft and smooth. Here’s how they work:
- take the mask out of the packaging
- put it over your lips (make sure you lips and skin around them are clean and free of makeup while you do this)
- leave it on for however long the instructions say(usually it’s 15 minutes)
- take it off and you’re good to go
Hack # 5 How to cure chapped lips all natural way
Guess what. For those of you who like to try out natural remedies there is an all natural cure for chapped lips that is worth trying. 🌿 It’s actually two things: cucumber and aloe. Both of these are great for skin. They have been used in countless number of beauty products that are meant to moisturize and improve your skin. So why not just use them fresh?
There are few ways you can go about this. You can smoosh them into a puree and apply them on your lips. You can also cut them into slices, take one slice and gently press it against your lips. Leave it on your lips like a mask. 💋
Hack # 6 Avoid Licking your Lips
It makes sense right? Your lips feel dry and that just makes you want to lick them. Except doing so will not moisturize them but instead will dry them up even more. So you want to avoid doing this as much as you can.
Hack # 7 Moisturizing Lipstick 💦💄
One way to help you avoid licking your lips is to wear a lipstick while you’re outside. 💋 This is something that has worked for me. For some reason if I feel that there’s lipstick on my lips I will not want to lick them at all. Another great benefit of wearing lipstick is that it puts an extra layer between your lips and the elements. Keep in mind that some lipsticks can be drying. 🤔 That is something you want to avoid. Make sure that you choose a moisturizing lipstick to keep your lips feeling good throughout the day. There are many moisturizing lipsticks out there to choose from. Too faced La Creme is a pretty good one. 💄 Some other good moisturizing lipsticks are Rimmel Moisture Renew and Burt’s Bees Lipstick.
Hack # 8 Exfoliate your Lips
How to cure chapped lips with a lip scrub: Exfoliating is a great way to get that dry flaky skin off your lips. However, this is not for everybody. If your lips have cracks, cuts or if they’re so chapped that they’re bleeding then you definitely DO NOT want to exfoliate them. In this case you want to heal them first by applying Vaseline and moisturizing.
If your lips don’t have any cracks but have dry flaky skin on them then exfoliating can help remove that dry skin and reveal the baby soft lips underneath.
Choosing the best lip exfoliator
When choosing an exfoliator for your lips make sure you use a gentle exfoliator since the skin on your lips is a lot more delicate then anywhere else. 🌷There are plenty of lip exfoliators/lip scrubs out there. Lush has some good lip scrubs. For a very affordable option there are e.l.f lip exfoliators. They come in a cute easy to apply container that looks like a lipstick tube.
DIY Lip Exfoliator
You can even make your own lip scrub/exfoliator with the things that you already have at home. Here’s a fast simple recipe for a diy lip scrub.
You will need:
- coconut oil/coconut cream(optional)
To make a lip scrub all you have to do is mix these ingredients together. It’s a good idea to crush the sugar a little bit. This will make the granules smaller. Smaller sugar granules means the mixture will be more gentle on your lips. Coconut oil is moisturizing so I decided to add it to this recipe. 💧 It also makes the mixture less sticky but it’s completely optional. If you don’t have it, then you can just mix sugar and honey. Alternatively if you don’t have honey, you can mix coconut oil and sugar.
Once the scrub is ready, pick up a small amount of it on your finger and exfoliate your lips. 👄 The easiest way to do it is to massage the scrub onto you lips in a circular motion. Then rinse the scrub off your lips and moisturize. 💦
Hack # 9 Moisturize
Moisturizing is a great way to cure chapped lips. There are many things you can use to moisturize your lips. 💗👄 There are lip creams, lip butters, lip oils and a variety of other products that are sold in beauty stores. Shea butter is an amazing moisturizer for chapped lips.
If you need a quick way to moisturize your lips and don’t have any of these at home, no worries. Here’s how to cure chapped lips with the things that you probably already have in your kitchen: If you use coconut oil for cooking then you’re in luck because coconut oil is an amazing moisturizer for your skin. You can also use olive oil, safflower oil, vegetable oil, avocado oil or any other cooking oil. They will all moisturize your lips. Just apply a drop onto your lips and try not to lick it off so that it absorbs into the skin.
Hack # 10 Cling Wrap
Putting a small piece of cling wrap over your lips after you apply the moisturizer will help the moisturizer to absorb better. 🕐 Just leave it on for 10-15 minutes and make sure it doesn’t cover your nostrils. Then remove the cling wrap and that’s it.
